“For the things we have to learn
before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics
A young boy in the prime of his early teens is wandering aimlessly around his hometown. He had been attending his local high school not that long ago, hanging out with mates, riding his scooter in the local skatepark, and climbing every tree he could find that posed a challenge.
As the reality of his life around him was sinking in, parental alcohol abuse, violence, hopelessness, he becomes more melancholy. In his susceptible state, he turns to pot to take the “edge” off his anxiety and help him sleep.
Over a relatively short time, his habit led to absenteeism, non-completion of assignments, conflict with teachers and school leaders and ultimately his exclusion from school, his only real connection
point.
His wondering is a case that he has nowhere else to go.
